Doctor Who: Paul McGann says Charles Dance "would be great" as the Master
Charles Dance has Paul McGann's seal of approval as a potential Master for future Doctor Who...
Every so often, a fandom gets a bee in its bonnet about a particular actor and a particular role. Before he was cast, Peter Capaldi as the Doctor was one. Nathan Fillion as Nathan Drake was another. Katee Sackhoff as Marvel's new Thor looks set to become a third. There's currently a burgeoning Twitter-led campaign for Mark Ruffalo to star in a Columbo remake, a combination that would make more sense than gravity when you think about it.
Sometimes industry leak-led, sometimes works of pure fan invention, fantasy casting is part of the geek world. A number of Doctor Who fans' current obsession is with the rumoured pairing of Charles Dance and the role of the Master.
Were that to happen, Paul McGann is fully on board, he told Flicks And The City at this year's Collectormania event. "He would be great, he’s a fantastic actor. He’s still got a twinkle in his eye. I don’t know where he gets it from, but he’s always had it", "he’d bring great gravitas and old fashioned charm" said McGann in the video interview.
The Eighth Doctor added: "The Master is never going to go away, is he? Rather like the Doctor himself he can take any guise, so I suppose he could look like an ageing roué from the depths of space."
