World of Warcraft Movie Moves Forward, Grabs Duncan Jones
We're super pleased to announce that the World of Warcraft movie is still in the works, and has just taken a frost giant size leap forward...
When Sam Raimi backed out of the World of Warcraft movie project last summer, we thought the movie would become dead in the water. But, that is apparently not the case, as Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures have hired Duncan Jones (Source Code, Moon) to direct the major motion picture adaptation of the most popular massively multiplayer online game, World of Warcraft.
If you live under a rock and have never played World of Warcraft (also known as WoW), the game has many different possibilities for a major motion picture, as the basis for the game is part fantasy and part science fiction and includes an extensive variety of characters. There are orcs, mages, dragons, warriors, priests, zombies, werewolves, aliens, spaceships and a whole lot more to choose from.
Legendary Pictures is planning to start filming fall 2013 and planning a release in 2015.
As a former World of Warcraft player, I'm very excited about a big screen adaptation. If the film has any stars in it whatsoever, the film is sure to be a box office hit, having over 10 million subscribers. We don't have any plot details for the film as of yet, but the game is so rich in lore that there are endless possible storylines the movie could follow.
Personally, I'd like to see an epic style tale of a newly made Paladin and his journey to the Frozen Throne to battle Arthas. The film has endless potential to be even more popular than The Lord of The Rings films.
What storyline would you most like to see? Maybe a battle between the Alliance and the Horde? Maybe each dungeon could be its own movie, with the final boss being the main antagonist? Sound off below in the comments.
