Sony is developing a live-action Captain Planet flick...

Sony Pictures is set to develop a live-action movie based on the environment-saving animated hero, Captain Planet.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers was an animated TV series in the 1990s that successfully informed younger viewers about major environmental issues by using a group of "cool" young people, all of which are from different corners of the globe, who combine their special powers in their rings to summon Captain Planet. With their powers combined , which were earth, fire, wind, water, and heart (somehow that is an element), they summoned Captain Planet to face the world's most evil eco-villains.

The film will be produced by Mark Gordon, Don Murphy and Susan Montford.

Sony faces a major challenge in making this movie.  For one, pleasing the major cult following that Captain Planet had in the 90s.  But, secondly, Captain Planet's lack of defined superpowers might be hard to define in an hour and a half live-action flick, as he had a range of powers in the show including weather manipulation, telepathy, and invisibility.

We can assume Captain Planet will get an updated look, sans the green mullet.
