Many, many, many years ago, Detective Comics hit its twenty-seventh issue and everything changed forever. Now Deadpool's comic is about to hit its twenty-seventh issue... for the third time... fourth if you count his series with Cable... and now everything is going to change forever again! Maybe. Comic book status quos are fickle like that.
Word's been going around for months that in April, Deadpool will be getting married, leading to questions on just who it could be. Move forward a bit and we discovered that he'd be getting married to new character find Shiklah, a succubus who just woke up from a very lengthy slumber. While their wedding appears to have happened off-panel in Deadpool: The Gauntlet #9, the whole thing will be given a massive spotlight in Deadpool #27.
Not only that, but we're getting a crapload of new stories from the many writers who made Deadpool who he is. Joining current writers Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan are Fabian Nicieza (character co-creator and writer of Deadpool: The Circle Chase and Cable/Deadpool), Mark Waid (the second Deadpool miniseries), Joe Kelly (the first half of the first Deadpool ongoing), Christopher Priest (the next guy up), Jimmy Palmiotti (took over after him), Frank Tieri (next on line), Gail Simone (the tail end of the Deadpool run and its follow-up Agent X), Daniel Way (the second Deadpool ongoing), and Victor Gischler (Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth and Deadpool Corps). That's every single major Deadpool writer ever unless you count team books. They'll be joined by artists Mike Hawthorne, Scott Koblish, Scott Hepburn, John McCrea, Paco Medina, Niko Henrichon, John Timms, Dexter Soy, Alvin Lee, Carlo Barberi, and Bong Dazo.
For those a little behind on Deadpool lore, the Posehn/Duggan run has been split into two comics. You have the main series where Deadpool was dealing with fighting a terrorist cell called ULTIMATUM while trying to rid his head of the disembodied soul of SHIELD Agent Preston. Then in the 12-issue weekly digital series, Deadpool: The Gauntlet, he was hired by Dracula to unearth and deliver Shiklah, the vampire's bride-to-be. Unfortunately, Dracula realized he no longer needed her as part of his plans and sent out to have Deadpool and Shiklah killed. Fine for Wade as he and Shiklah fell in love and would need to rely on each other to take on the non-stop gauntlet of enemies that included a minotaur, Blade, Werewolf by Night, MODOK, and even Marcus the diabetic centaur werewolf with an alien symbiote.
Get a look at some of the art below, none of which includes word bubbles. I'm sure Wolverine and Captain America are telling Deadpool that inviting Punisher and Constrictor to a party has proven to be a really bad idea.
By the way, that second cover shows that Deadpool invited both his dead girlfriend and the villain who killed her. Wade is a strange cat.
Save the date! The Merc With a Mouth is about to become the Merc in Matrimony this April in the pages of the super-sized Deadpool #27 – from current Deadpool writers Gerry Duggan & Brian Posehn along with an epic assortment of past Deadpool writers!
A day you never dreamed would come has finally arrived – and it’s going to be anything but traditional. For starters, his bride Shiklah is an ancient and royal succubus (see Deadpool: The Gauntlet). Believe us, the ceremony is going to be one for the ages!
“We’re complicating his life and we’ll be pulling him in different directions,” said writer Gerry Duggan in an interview with Marvel.com. “I think that’s something everyone can relate to, and will lead to some more fun comic books.”
But the main story is just the beginning! This super-sized issue is packed to the gills with new stories from all-star Deadpool writers of yesteryear – including Fabian Nicieza, Mark Waid, Joe Kelly, Christopher Priest, Jimmy Palmiotti, Frank Tieri, Gail Simone, Daniel Way & Victor Gischler!
You will not want to miss this monumental issue as Wade Wilson ties the knot in front of friends and family alike when the oversized Deadpool #27 hits comic shops this April!
